Description

55 and 57 Queen Charlotte Street is a villa built in the later 18th century, featuring two storeys and an attic with a symmetrical three-bay design and classical detailing. The building is constructed from grey sandstone, with coursed and squared rubble complemented by polished ashlar dressings. Notable exterior features include rusticated quoins, an eaves band, and a cornice.

On the south (front) elevation, there is a doorway at the center with an architrave and cornice, featuring deeply chamfered jambs, a panelled door, and a rectangular plate glass fanlight above. A single window is located on the first floor above the doorway, and there is a rectangular dormer with a piended roof. The outer bays have single windows on both the ground and first floors, along with canted dormers that also have piended roofs. To the left, there is a single-storey, flat-roofed addition built of rubble, which includes a secondary door and a single window. A similar single-storey flat-roofed addition is located to the right.

The north (rear) elevation features a stair window at the center, with single windows in the outer bays and a secondary door. There are also two rectangular tripartite dormers. The east elevation is cement-rendered and gabled, with an apex stack and a single window to the left. The west elevation is also gabled with a rendered apex stack and features single windows at the gablehead.

The villa has timber sash and case windows, predominantly with plate glass glazing, although some windows at the rear have 12 panes. The roof is slate, with two apex stacks as previously mentioned. The interior was not seen in 1993.
