Description

45 Queen Charlotte Street is a townhouse built around 1800, featuring two storeys and a basement, with a symmetrical five-bay façade that showcases classical detailing. The front is made of grey sandstone with stugged ashlar and polished dressings, while the rear is constructed from coursed and squared rubble. The building has raised quoins, architraved windows with cornices on the ground floor, a frieze adorned with paterae, and a dentilled eaves cornice topped with a blocking course that includes a tablet with a radial patera and fluting.

On the south (front) elevation, there is a centrally located architraved consoled doorway featuring a dentilled cornice and a fluted frieze with a swagged panel. The architrave is decorated with garland carvings, and the entrance includes a panelled door and a fanlight with radial astragals. Above the doorway, there is a single window on the first floor, with additional single windows in the outer bays.

The north (rear) elevation has a square-plan full-height gabled central projection with an apex stack and single windows in the outer bays. The building also features cast-iron rooflights.

The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass glazing, including some 12-pane windows at the rear. The roof is slate with a metal ridge, and there are corniced mutual stacks along with the apex stack mentioned earlier.

Inside, the tripartite inner doorpiece has been altered.

The property is enclosed by low boundary walls at the front, which have saddleback coping and plain railings, with swept railings leading to the entrance steps.
