Description

65 Queen Charlotte Street is a later 18th century, two-storey, three-bay symmetrical villa featuring classical details. The building is constructed of grey sandstone, with coursed and squared rubble on the front and sides, and polished ashlar dressings. The rear is finished in coursed rubble. Notable architectural features include rusticated quoins, a band eaves course, a dentilled eaves cornice, and a blocking course.

On the south (front) elevation, there is an architraved and corniced doorway at the center with deeply chamfered jambs, and a single window above on the first floor. Each outer bay also has a single window.

The east (Elbe Street) elevation is three bays wide and gabled, featuring paired apex stacks. It has single windows on both the ground and first floors, with a band course above. A keystoned Venetian window is located at the gablehead, adorned with a trompe l'œil balustrade to the apron and a depiction of a girl in an arched window above.

On the north (rear) elevation, there is an architraved and corniced doorway at the center, which has been inserted in a former stair window, accessed by steps. Above the cornice is a semi-circular blind fanlight, and the door is panelled with thin border glazing and a radial fanlight. The outer bays feature single windows, and there is a rectangular tripartite dormer.

The west elevation is gabled with paired apex stacks, a small Venetian window at the gablehead, and a large modern conservatory. The villa has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a slate roof with a red tile ridge, and apex stacks with quoin strips, along with modern cans and a Velux rooflight.

The property is enclosed by low boundary walls at the front, with a portion of a tall wall to the east that includes remains of a pilastered doorway. Square gatepiers topped with modern cone finials support a large timber gate.
