Description
The Jubilee Drinking Fountain, located on Albert Road in Gourock, was designed by Walter Macfarlane & Co and completed in 1897. This cast-iron drinking fountain, now no longer in use, was erected to commemorate Queen Victoria's Silver Jubilee. It features four slender columns that stand on a granite slab, supporting a round-arched dome adorned with foliate open-work. At the corners facing the road, there are two winged dragons. The fountain includes two vignettes of Queen Victoria, each inscribed with "Jubilee 1897," and two cartouches that display a stork motif. A water pipe at the center is inscribed with "J & R Howie Ltd, Hurlford, Ayrshire" along with the trademark 'puro'.
