Description
The drinking fountain located on George Street in Stranraer was designed by Walter Macfarlane & Co and completed in 1897. It is made of cast iron and features a stepped stone platform. The fountain is supported by four fluted decorative columns that hold up a domed canopy, which is topped with a decorative finial. Below the canopy is a circular basin, from which a gilded bird rises on a foliate stalk.
On the north elevation, there is a gilt relief bust of Queen Victoria. The south elevation displays the burgh arms along with the motto "Tutissima Statio." Both the west and east elevations feature the inscription, "The pavement, keep dry. Erected by the town council in commemoration of Queen Victoria's record reign 1897."
