Description

38 George Street in Stranraer is a late 18th century building featuring a pair of symmetrical, two-storey and attic shops arranged in an L-plan. The left shop has a timber fascia, while the right shop has a rendered ground floor and harled first floor. A corniced band course runs along the top, and the first-floor windows have roll-moulded openings.

On the south elevation, there is a timber door at the center with a single window above it on the first floor. The left side has a central entrance leading to a three-part shopfront with a two-leaf timber door, flanked by pilasters and shop windows, along with two single windows on the first floor. The right side features a central entrance to a shopfront with a uPVC door and flanking shop windows. There are canted three-light dormers on both the left and right sides.

The building has modern glazing and a skylight, with a grey slate roof, stone skews, rope-detail skewputts, and coped rubble ridge stacks at both ends, complete with moulded cans. The interiors were not seen in 1997.
