Description

St Kentigern's House is a villa built in 1820, featuring two storeys and three bays with incised Greek details. The principal elevation is classical and constructed of ashlar, showcasing a base, cill, and band course, along with giant order angle pilasters. The corniced principal elevation has a plain frieze that is raised at the ends and center. The other elevations are made of tooled sandstone, with a rendered first floor on the rear elevation, and ashlar margins and eaves course, complemented by droved quoins.

The south elevation is symmetrical, with a central door that has a fanlight featuring circular panes. The doorpiece is consoled, corniced, and moulded. Ground floor windows flank the door, and there are three first floor windows centered above. The top of the pilasters displays incised Greek detailing.

The west elevation is partially visible and includes a modern lean-to conservatory on the left, with two first floor windows to the left side.

The north elevation features a tall coped wall extending from the left of the house, with two doors. There is a rear extension that has three ground floor windows, and a modern second storey addition with three windows on the north side and one window in each return. A modern lean-to porch is located to the left of the rear addition, with a door and window facing east. The tall coped wall continues from the right of the house, with a lean-to on the left, two doors, and another lean-to to the right.

The east elevation has a ground floor window to the left and a first floor window to the left with stained glass, as well as a first floor window to the right. A modern flat-roofed garage obscures the rest of this elevation.

The villa predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows and a timber panelled door. The roof is piended slate with a platform on top, while the later rear addition also has a piended slate roof. Lean-to roofs are slated, and there are corniced stacks at the center of the east and west sides, along with a circular can. A coped stack is located at the northeast.

Inside, the vestibule has partially visible Minton tiles and an anthemion frieze with a guilloche cornice above.
