Description

St Serf's is an 18th-century, two-storey and attic, three-bay house located on Low Causeway in Culross. The building features stugged coursed stone with painted ashlar margins, an eaves course, quoins, and a base course.

On the south elevation, there is an off-centre door with a pilastered doorpiece and a footscrape to the right. To the left of the door is a window, and there is another window at the far right. The first floor has three windows located at the eaves.

The west elevation is attached to Whitbank and includes a rear extension. There is a ground floor window to the left and a pend to the right that leads into store rooms, with a first floor window to the right.

The north elevation features a central door, a ground floor window to the right, and a first floor window above the door. To the left, there is a two-storey, flat-roofed extension with two windows on both the ground and first floors.

The east elevation is partially visible and has a first floor window and an attic window to the left.

The house predominantly has 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The front has a replacement glazed door, while the rear features a traditional two-leaf timber door with two glazed panes. The pitched roof is covered with interlocking replacement tiles, and there are raised skews, corniced gable end stacks, and both polygonal and circular cans, with a northeast stack on the rear extension.

Inside, the interior has been modernised, but some timber panelled window splays and blown glass remain. There is also an alcove in the rear sitting room wall on the first floor east room.

Surrounding the property is a rubble sandstone garden wall to the north and east.
