Description

Williamton House, located on Low Causeway in Culross, is an 18th-century, likely late 18th-century, three-storey, three-bay house with wings to the west and north. There is a modern two-storey extension at the rear, added in the later 20th century. The house features painted ashlar margins and vertical arrises, with white harling.

The south elevation, which is the principal front, has an off-centre door with the remains of a former pitched porch recently removed. There are two windows flanking the door, three evenly spaced first-floor windows, and three second-floor windows located at the eaves, centered above the first-floor windows. To the left, there is a single-storey wing, with a window to the right that was formerly a door, and a window to the left with chamfered surrounds.

On the west elevation, there is a single-storey wing with an inserted door to the left and a small round-headed central attic window. The rear range has a modern frontage to the right, while a small two-storey bothy is located to the left, featuring a door to the right and a window to the left, along with a first-floor window to the left. There is also a single-storey section to the left with a door and a window. Attached to the left is a later L-plan range from the 20th century, which has replacement openings.

The north elevation includes a single-storey wing to the west with a blocked door to the left and a central window. The modern two-storey extension at the rear has a window to the right and a door to the left, along with two first-floor windows.

The east elevation features a first-floor window to the left and a second-floor window to the right. The rear range shows exposed rubble to the right, with three small ground-floor windows in the first section. A section to the far right is partially visible and has a small window.

The house predominantly has 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The decorative front door has a glazed panel and a moulded surround, with a central rose and a moulded surround below, a pattern that is repeated inside. The main house has a pitched slate roof with raised, smooth skews, coped gable apex stacks, and circular cans. There is a later wallhead stack to the northeast of the house with a polygonal can. The west wing also has a pitched slate roof with a coped gable apex stack. The modern rear extension has a lean-to roof, while the rear wings feature pitched roofs with clay pantiles and a coped stack on the north gable of the bothy.

Inside, only the interior of the bothy was observed, which includes timber beams and two fireplaces in the north gable wall that share one lintel. A low rubble wall encloses the front garden, which has a central gate.
