Ye Old Stone Cottage, Back Street, Culross

Ye Old Stone Cottage is an 18th-century, two-storey, three-bay house with a rectangular plan. It features a 20th-century wing to the west and at the rear. The openings have ashlar margins and the exterior is harled.

On the south elevation, there is a central door flanked by ground floor windows. Above, a small central window is flanked by windows that hug the eaves. To the left, there is a single-storey wing with a central window.

The west elevation has two windows belonging to the later wing, while the north elevation includes a lean-to wing attached to the rear, featuring two windows on the left and glazed doors on the right, as well as a glazed door to the west wing.

The east elevation presents a plain gable wall. The house predominantly has 8-pane timber sash and case windows, with enlarged windows on the right side of the principal elevation. The front door is a two-leaf timber boarded design. The roof is pitched, covered with clay pantiles and has a slate easing course, with coped gable apex stacks. There is a rear rooflight and a slated lean-to roof on the rear wing.

Inside, a central rear first-floor window is exposed, although it is blocked by the later northern extension. The original exterior walls are approximately three feet thick and are visible where the original house meets the later lean-to.
