Description

This building is a mid-19th century villa with a late 19th century addition, located at 105 and 106 Clyde Street West in Helensburgh. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure featuring classical details, with a later single bay added to the left side. The exterior is constructed from stugged, squared, and coursed red and grey sandstone, with ashlar dressings on the south elevation, while the side and rear elevations are harled. Notable architectural features include a base course, raised margins, ashlar mullioned windows, pilastered quoins, lintel courses, a cornice, and a parapet.

On the south (entrance) elevation, there is a slightly recessed columnar doorpiece at the center, complete with an entablature and a stepped blocking course, leading to two-leaf boarded doors. Above this, there is a window on the first floor, with tripartite windows in the outer bays on both the ground and first floors. An en suite addition is located on the outer left, featuring windows on both the ground and first floors.

The east (side) elevation is a blank gabled return. The north (rear) elevation has a window on the ground and first floor to the outer left, and a prominent two-storey block in the center, which also has windows on both floors facing east. The ground level features slappings, and there is a curved forestair leading to the first floor on the right, complete with an iron balustrade and a timber porch.

Most of the windows have been modernized, but some original features remain, including 12-pane and plate glass sash and case windows, with colored glass in the first-floor window on the south elevation. The roof is covered with grey slate, piended to the left and gabled to the right, and features rendered corniced stacks with original cans. There are also two slate-hung, timber, tripartite gabled dormers on the south side.

The interior has not been seen.
