Description

Wellcroft is an earlier 19th century villa located at 11 Glasgow Street in Helensburgh. This two-storey building with an attic features a symmetrical three-bay design and a lower two-storey wing to the west. The exterior is constructed of painted rubble, squared, coursed, and stugged with ashlar dressings on the south elevation, which includes base and eaves lintel courses, quoin strips, and raised window margins.

The south entrance elevation has an architraved doorway at the center, featuring a deep-set half-glazed modern door with a plate glass fanlight and an attractive timber lattice-work porch. The remaining bays display regular fenestration, with a larger window at the ground level and a smaller window above in the wing to the outer left.

On the east elevation facing Glasgow Street, there is a window at the center on the ground floor, a blinded window to the outer left, and a window above on the first floor. The north elevation, which faces Prince's Street, has three widely spaced windows on both the ground and first floors, with a door that has been blocked and converted into a window between the central and outer right windows. The wing to the right features a modern glazed door.

The villa primarily has 12-pane sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with two gabled slate-hung dormers on the south side, and timber bipartite windows. There is a roof-light situated between the dormers, along with two similarly detailed dormers with bargeboards on the north side. The end stacks are rendered with polygonal cans, and the skews are coped with ashlar.
