Nurses' Home, Gartnavel Royal Hospital, 1055 Great Western Road, Glasgow

The Nurses' Home at Gartnavel Royal Hospital, located at 1055 Great Western Road in Glasgow, was designed by Norman Dick of Burnet, Son and Dick in 1935. This building is a symmetrical H-plan structure with four storeys, constructed from brick with an unusual arrangement of stretchers and headers that creates band courses, and features a concrete band course over the ground level.

On the north elevation, the building has nine bays, including three-storey terminal pavilions that are boldly advanced, with the inner seven bays also advanced at the ground floor. There are steps leading to a semi-circular flat-roofed porch, which has tiled reveals and deeply recessed glazed double-leaf doors. The door is flanked by windows with curved panes. At each end, there are tall stair windows with cement architraves and block pediments, featuring modern plate glass. The remaining windows are metal framed, arranged in pairs with swivel-opening lying panes. A raised concrete corridor leads to the east pavilion on stilts, which is complemented by a good cast-iron gate. The south elevation is detailed similarly.

The east and west elevations each have seven bays, with an advanced taller centre bay that includes a doorway at ground level. The interior is symmetrical, featuring common rooms on the ground floor and bedrooms above.
