Community Centre, 165 Leith Walk, Edinburgh

The Community Centre at 165 Leith Walk in Edinburgh, dated 1938, is a two-storey, six-bay building designed in an austere Modern Movement style. It features a symmetrical layout with four-bay returns and has a rectangular plan. The front facade is made of polished ashlar sandstone, while the side elevations are cement rendered. A cill course runs around the ground floor and continues to the side elevations, and there is a cornice at the roof level that does not extend to the ends of the elevations.

Above the cornice, there is a parapet with advanced ends and a raised table in the center. Each bay contains two-storey window openings, with timber diamond and string course decoration over the ground floor windows. Square panels are located above the ground floor windows, featuring ventilation holes at the center, and profiled timber sills are positioned below the first-floor windows. Pilasters with plain capitals are situated between the windows, and the wider ends frame the facade, topped with a band course. An additional string course frames the fenestration.

The entrance doors are located at bay one on the north elevation and bay two on the south elevation, with the south entrance featuring a heavy lintel and keystone. The ground floor windows consist of four-pane timber designs, while the first-floor windows have two panes, all with border glazing.
