3, 5 Smith's Place, Edinburgh

3 and 5 Smith's Place in Edinburgh is a two-storey office building with a raised basement, designed by E J MacRae in 1936. It features a symmetrical classical style with six bays, matching the neighboring houses. The front is made of polished sandstone ashlar, with a droved finish at the basement and first floor. The principal floor has channelled rustication, with voussoirs above the windows, a band course above, and a cornice with a blocking course at the eaves. There are doors to the basement located at the first and sixth bays.

The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, with plate glass upper sashes in the fourth bay. There are also plate glass fanlights above the basement doors. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are cast-iron downpipes. A mutual rubble stack is located to the west, featuring circular cans.

At the street, there is a coped, coursed rubble wall topped with modern wrought-iron railings, and an original gate with arrowhead finials. A police box is situated on the pavement to the left of the gate.
