Description

E J MacRae, earlier 20th century. 4-storey, 10-bay traditional-style tenement block. Squared and snecked rubble; polished ashlar dressings; polished ashlar long and short quoins. Cornice at 3rd floor. Raised margins to doorpieces, to window at 1st floor above doorpiece at No 38, and windows above doorpiece at No 40, at all floors; projecting cills.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: advanced stair well breaking eaves centred at No 38; 5 bays to left (No 40) advanced and raised. Square-headed doorpieces with timber doors in 4th bay from right and 3rd bay from left. Windows in remaining bays at principal floor and floors above, with bipartite windows in bays to outer left and right, and in 5th bay from left, at all floors.

E ELEVATION: gable; single windows centred at all floors.

W ELEVATION: not seen, 1998.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: not seen, 1998. Harled; regular fenestration.

Predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Stugged and squared, and rendered stacks breaking pitch; coped, with circular cans. Coped skews; skew- putts.
