Description

Craig And Rose Plc is a late 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay office building designed in an L-plan layout, featuring Scottish Renaissance details. It is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings and is part of an irregular terrace. The windows are roll-moulded, with segmental arches on the ground floor, and stone mullions and moulded transoms on the first floor.

The east elevation facing Leith Walk has three bays. The left bay features a depressed-arched pend with a moulded surround, keystone, and voussoirs, along with iron gates and spurs. There are three brackets supporting a continuous cornice above the pend arch and the doorway to the right. The central bay has a depressed-arch doorway detailed as a pend arch, with a two-leaf panelled door and a plate glass fanlight above. A bipartite window is situated on the first floor above this doorway. The elevation is topped with a parapet. To the right, there is a two-storey canted window with a swept lead roof and scalloped flashing, alongside a tripartite window on the ground floor and a quadripartite window on the first floor. The gablehead features a bracketed cornice above the bipartite window, with coping that is scrolled at the apex and topped with a finial. Moulded shafts flank waved panels at the foot of the gablehead, although the finials are missing from the panel on the right, each having a rainwater spout.

The west elevation at the rear has three single windows above the pend and a secondary doorway to the left of the pend. There is a single-storey wing that advances to the left, featuring segmental-arched windows on its return and a finialled end gable.

The building has plate glass timber sash and case windows and a grey slate roof, with some original rainwater goods still in place. The interior was not seen in 1993.
