Description
St Brendan is a pair of substantial two-storey, three-bay houses designed by Neil C Duff in 1903, located at 5 Arnwood Drive, Glasgow. The buildings are constructed from squared and snecked red sandstone rubble with polished dressings. Each house features a prominent canted, four-light mullion and transom window at the ground floor center, with a tripartite window above. The entrance is located in the central bay, showcasing a wide recessed door set within shelved lugged architraves. The outer bays are advanced and chamfered at the ground level, with a tripartite first floor set back, adorned with pilaster strips at the angles that rise into decorative parapets. The large first-floor window has a segmental head.
The tower on No 3 is drum-shaped for two stages, corbelled to an octagonal third stage, and features a castellated parapet with small flat-headed or segmental windows, as well as arrow slits on the third stage. The tower on No 5 has two drum stages and a tall upper band, topped with a conical finial. Each house has a large rear elevation with a tall nine-light mullion and transom window, along with a cusp-headed stair window. Most windows throughout the houses are mullion and transom style with small-pane glazing. The roofs are covered with Westmoreland slate and feature a decorative red tiled ridge, along with tall coped stacks.
