Description

Thomas Somers, City Engineer, 1938. Modern Movement brick community centre, shallow H-plan, single storey. Concrete base course and lintel course; red bricks. Flat roof. Metal windows.

SW ELEVATION (DYKEBAR AVENUE): deeply bowed wings to outer left and right, each with 3 5-light windows; 3 door taller centrepiece slightly advanced with flanking bays given horizontal emphasis with narrow window bands.

NE ELEVATION: wings advanced to outer left and right, tall 3-bay block advanced at centre and lower porches advanced from intercening bays with 5-light bands of clerestorey windows with continuous cill course and cope to eaves. Canopied doors to outer re-entrant angles.

SE AND NW ELEVATIONS: 3 4-light windows grouped at centre of SE, 4 to SW.

INTERIOR: not seen.

Horizontal-pane metal glazing pattern with casement and top-hopper windows. Flat roof with concrete cope. Brick stacks.
