Description
The Operations Block at Tain Airfield is a 2-storey building constructed around 1940. It has a near rectangular plan, measuring 162 feet long, and features a flat roof with a ventilation tower. The structure is made of harled brick and reinforced concrete, with the outer sections being slightly lower than the central part.
On the south elevation, there are symmetrically positioned entrance porches that are off-centre to the left and right, spaced 44 feet 2 inches apart. Each porch measures 6 feet 4 inches wide and 9 feet 6 inches deep, topped with concrete slab roofs. The central area and the flanking sections have blank walls.
The north elevation shows that the outer sections are recessed, with the centre featuring a smaller porch to the left. There is a recess to the left that has two openings, while the deeper recess to the right has no openings. The east elevation includes a door on the outer left side, and the ventilation tower is centrally located, showcasing louvred panels beneath a coped head and flush walls behind the stack. The west elevation has an opening at the centre, which is shielded by screen walls.
