Description
The Fearn railway station was built in 1864 by Joseph Mitchell and Co., with Murdoch Peterson acting as resident engineer. It is a simple, symmetrical structure comprising a central two-storey, three-bay block flanked by single-storey, single-bay wings. The building is constructed of snecked rubble with tooled dressings. A five-bay canopy with cast-iron columns extends across the main block on the platform elevation, linking outer canted bay windows. The roof has a shallow pitch and deep eaves, and is covered in slate. References to the station can be found in the Inverness Advertiser of January 19, 1864, and in John Hume’s The Industrial Archaeology of Scotland, volume ii, page 287.
