Description
Mains Of Calrossie is an early 19th century steading range, likely with alterations and embellishments added in the mid to later 19th century. The building has a U-shaped plan and consists of seven bays, originally incorporating stables and carriage houses. The exterior is harled with margins of tooled ashlar. A slightly projecting, gabled central bay features an entrance doorway and a loft door above, set within a small gable with a weathervane. Wide, projecting outer bays have basket-arched carriage entrances, with the western entrance blocked and replaced by a window. Decorative detailing and ashlar canopies are present in the outer, crowstepped gables. There are small loft windows on the first floor of the south front and west elevation. A large entrance has been added to the rear, and the U-shaped courtyard has been partially infilled. Advertisements for tenders appeared in the Inverness Courier on April 13, 1854 and the Edinburgh Evening Courant on September 28, 1812.
