Description
Knockbreck Primary School, built in 1877 by A Maitland and Sons, features later additions and alterations from 1908. The building is constructed from sneck coursed rubble with stugged dressings and consists of a large single-storey rectangular complex. The north elevation has five central bays with tripartite windows, flanked by outer gabled bays. The eastern gabled bay is complemented by a wide western gable that includes one tall round-headed window and two shorter flanking windows, all linked by a hoodmould, with smaller outer gabled bays slightly advanced. At the apex, there is a bellcote. The school also has various gabled bays on the west and south sides, retains its original fenestration, features stone finials, and has a slate roof. Additionally, there is a coped rubble retaining wall with spearhead railings.
