Lanark Grammar School, Hyndford Road, Lanark

Lanark Grammar School, built in 1883, is an extensive range of school buildings located on Hyndford Road in Lanark. The structure is single storey with a raised basement at the rear, constructed from tooled and snecked red rubble, featuring contrasting cream tooled ashlar dressing. The layout follows a free H-plan, with each block topped by gables that include three or five-light lancet windows. Some gables are adorned with decorative drip moulds or a plain roundel at the apex. Other elevations feature single light square-headed windows and pairs of lancets beneath secondary gables. All gables have straight skews, with most topped by iron finials. An octagonal lead bellcote with a weathervane rises from a square base, which is surrounded by a decorative cast iron balustrade. There are three doors on the south elevation, one on the southwest elevation, and one at the north. The roofs are covered in slate.
