5 Hyndford Road, Lanark

5 Hyndford Road in Lanark is a mid-19th century, two-storey asymmetrical house featuring single-storey flanking wings. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with chamfered ashlar dressings. The main block has three bays, with the western section advanced and featuring a canted bay and a decorative parapet at the ground level. Above, there is a bipartite window and a single light in the gable end. The house has coped skews and bracketted skew putts, with a diamond flue at the apex. The door and window, both set in recessed bays, have hood moulds, with two additional windows above. The end walls are made of rubble, with narrow hoodmoulded lights in the gablehead, and the eastern gable features a cast-iron balcony. There are five diamond flues on both end gables, adorned with decorative corbelling, and the skews are coped with a slate roof. The original glazing consists of lying-pane windows. The east wing includes a door and one window, both with hoodmoulds, and a gable above. The gable ends have two flues on the eastern side. The west wing has one hood-moulded window and a modern stack.
