Description

Andrew Maitland and Sons, 1875-76. Alterations and additions

1890 and 1904, also Andrew Maitland & Sons.

Long Gothic single storey range of 6 bays with advanced

single bay wing to left. To right 2 storey and attic steeply

pitched advanced gable with 3 stage belfry with bellcast

conical roof and weather-vane. Adjoining 2 storey with

dormerheads, 2 bay schoolhouse. Red dressed rubble with

polished yellowish ashlar dressings. Centre bays have

bipartites and tripartites and gablet linked with corbelled

eaves course. Left hand gable single mullioned window with

geometric decoration above. Right hand gable contained large elliptically arched entrance, later blocked by window, and

flanking doorways, right to belfry and left to schoolhouse.

2 dormerheads to schoolhouse. Wings to rear with long chimney

stalks. Slate roof. Cruciform ashlar gate piers with ball

finials; long, low coped wall with 4 short railing piers as

gate piers and iron railings.
