Description

Penpont School is primarily a late 19th-century building with some alterations and additions. It features a schoolhouse that is two stories tall, located adjacent to the south. The structure is made of stugged and squared rubble with ashlar dressings, showcasing advanced and recessed gabled bays with saw-toothed skews.

On the west elevation of the school, most windows have hood moulds, while some are designed with depressed arches. There are two advanced low gabled former porches, with a belfry located over the porch on the right, which is now linked by a modern porch. The original wall-head has two wall-head dormers, and the outer gables are wide and full-height, with the left gable being advanced and featuring a large mullioned and transomed window. A similar window is found in the north gable, which is part of the house and is recessed. The glazing is mostly plate glass, and there are axial ventilators present.

The south elevation of the house consists of three bays, with bipartite windows in the outer bays. The right bay is boldly advanced and gabled, and there is a square entrance bay in the re-entrant angle that is also gabled, featuring a stair window and a west-facing depressed-arched door. The first-floor window in the left bay breaks the eaves and has a gabled dormer head. The windows are sash style, with some featuring lying panes. A modern addition is attached to the east gable. The building has corniced stacks and some square flues, all covered with graded slates.

Additionally, there is an ashlar-coped rubble-built garden wall, and the playground wall has been removed at the roadside.
