School, Wanlockhead

The building is a school and adjoining schoolhouse, mostly dating from the late 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, mostly painted, and features some 20th century brick additions. The schoolhouse is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical design with gables and gabled dormer heads. It includes axial stacks with grouped flues and a porch added to the east side. The south elevation has an advanced inner gable flanked by bipartite windows at ground level, and there is a cross window in the gable of the school on the left, beyond a tall belfry. The school itself has an essentially rectangular plan with additions to the east. Its long west elevation features six regular bays with windows below gabled dormer heads, including two inserted windows. The glazing is small-paned, and there are three axial roof ventilators. The skews are saw-toothed, and the roof is covered with graded slates.
