Description

Argyle House, located at 1-3 School Wynd in Errol, dates from around 1800 and originally served as a schoolhouse. It is a two-storey building with a basement and features three bays. At the rear, there is a later L-plan section that was also part of the school. In the late 20th century, the building was reworked and converted into five separate houses. The main structure is constructed of coursed rubble with squared rubble quoins, while the school section is made of squared and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings, connected by a harled link.

The southwest elevation, which is the principal facade, is symmetrical. It features a six-panelled door with a plate glass fanlight in the center bay at ground level, flanked by windows in the adjacent bays, and regular window placement on the first floor.

On the southeast elevation, which faces the graveyard, there is a gabled bay of the schoolhouse on the outer left with a window on each floor. To the right, there is a tall, single-storey school section with four bays, each having a gabletted window, and modern dormer windows symmetrically placed above.

The northwest elevation presents a variety of elements in an asymmetrical arrangement, including a gabled schoolhouse projecting to the right, a gabled school with a raised center tripartite window projecting to the left, and a recessed harled bay in the center.

Throughout the building, there are modern small-pane top-hopper windows and timber sash and case glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are replacement coped rubble stacks with cans. The skews are ashlar-coped, and the overhanging eaves feature plain bargeboarding.
