Westerkirk School And Schoolhouse, Bentpath

Westerkirk School and Schoolhouse, located in Bentpath, is a mid-19th century building featuring a roughly L-plan arrangement. The structure is single storey, with the schoolhouse having an attic. It is constructed of roughly-coursed rubble with contrasting ashlar dressings, and the south gable of the house is harled. The windows are mostly sash with 12-pane glazing, and there are corniced end and axial stacks. The roofs are covered with graded slates.

The house has an east elevation with three bays, featuring a central door set in stepped reveals and topped with a fanlight. It also has two piended and canted dormers at the ends. The school has a south elevation with four bays, where the bay nearest to the west is gabled and includes a tall bipartite axial roof ventilator above. The west elevation of the school consists of three bays. There is a modern addition to the north of the building.
