Description

The former library buildings on High Street in Errol date from the earlier 20th century. This two-storey, five-bay rectangular structure has been converted into four flatted dwellings and features a half-timbered gablehead as part of an irregular terrace to the east. The building is constructed from polychrome brick with raised ashlar margins at the ground level and includes a part first-floor cill course. Notable architectural details include a tabbed and shouldered doorpiece, round-headed windows with bracketed cills, and stone mullions.

The southeast elevation facing High Street is symmetrical, featuring a slightly advanced gable at the center bay. This bay includes a two-leaf panelled timber door, a shaped plate glass fanlight, and flanking narrow lights with moulded roundels above. The first-floor cill course transitions to two windows and a jettied half-timbered gablehead topped with a decorative cast-iron finial. The flanking bays are identical, each containing a round-headed bipartite window at ground level, which leads to a blind roundel and a single window on the first floor.

The southwest elevation has a gabled design with small windows located on the outer left at each floor. The northwest rear elevation is asymmetrical, featuring three small windows at ground level and a forestair on the right leading to two modern doors at the first floor, along with another small window on the outer left.

The building has a 4-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows on the north side, except for three bays on the left at the first floor, while modern glazing is used elsewhere. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped polychrome brick stacks with a full complement of cans, some of which are polygonal. The eaves are deeply overhanging with plain bargeboarding, and decorative cast-iron downpipes with rainwater hoppers are also present.
