Description
Dalgleish House is an early 19th century, two-storey, four-bay classical house located on High Street in Errol. The building, which has been subdivided, features a pilastered doorpiece and is constructed from stugged ashlar with stone cills, while the sides and rear are made of rubble. It includes a base course and a blocking course, as well as voussoirs.
The north elevation facing High Street has three symmetrical bays to the left of the center. It features a deep-set panelled two-leaf timber door with a radial-astragalled fanlight above, flanked by windows in the adjacent bays. The first floor has regular fenestration, with an additional window at the outer right, which is set in an arched recess that may have once served as a carriage arch but is now blocked.
The east elevation has a boarded timber door at ground level and a small window above it in the bay to the left of the center. The west elevation presents a gabled facade with a boarded timber door on the outer left at ground level, accompanied by two small windows to the right and another small window off-centre right on the first floor.
The south elevation, or rear, is asymmetrical and features a variety of elements, including an unsympathetic flat-roofed extension. The north elevation showcases a 12-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows, while other elevations display a mix of plate glass in sash and case windows and top-opening timber windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with cans and thackstanes, as well as ashlar-coped skews on the east side.
To the west of the main house is an ancillary building that was formerly a byre or stable, which has a hayloft above and a single-storey range to the north. This building is also constructed from stugged ashlar and has a slated roof. Its east elevation features two boarded timber doors and a window at ground level, with a piended hayloft door centered above. The single-storey range has a small horizontal window.
To the south of the main house is another ancillary building with a slated, piended roof, which includes a cart arch at the center, a window in the left bay, and broad square-headed openings in the outer bays, all fitted with boarded timber doors.
The property is enclosed by coped rubble boundary walls and square-section gatepiers, with the eastern gatepier featuring a Victorian letterbox.
