Post Office, Main Street, Penpont

The Post Office on Main Street in Penpont is an earlier 19th century building that has been altered and is now divided into two houses. It is a two-storey corner block with a shop front. The exterior features whitewashed render that is lined to resemble ashlar, with contrasting painted ashlar margins. The north-west angle is canted at the ground level and has a two-leaf shop door, which is corbelled to a square above.

The west elevation, facing Keir Road, originally had three bays but was later extended with an additional bay in the late 20th century. This elevation has a shaped central wall-head gable with an apex stack, two shop windows (with the centre window possibly being an original door), and a door and window in the right bay. The fourth bay is sympathetic to the original design. All first-floor windows are sashes with eight-pane glazing.

The gabled elevation facing Main Street also features a shop window. There is a late 19th century full-height single bay addition to the east that extends the full length of the building, with the main roof swept over it. The building retains its original end stacks and is roofed with graded slates.
