Description

The building is a two-storey gabled schoolhouse constructed in 1909, located in Lochboisdale, South Uist. It is linked at right angles to another gabled school building. The exterior features painted render with a base course and painted dressings, along with stone mullions.

The schoolhouse has three bays, with an advanced gabled bay on the right that includes bipartite windows on each floor. A door is situated in a narrower, less advanced bay at the center, featuring a letterbox fanlight above it, and a window with a gabled dormer head above that. The recessed bay to the left also has bipartite windows on both floors, which break the eaves at the first floor. The left side has a gabled return with a window on each floor, while the right side of the return has a later lean-to. There are single-storey service bays at the rear, connecting to the school.

The school itself has an M-gable facing the road, with the right gable slightly advanced. The left gable features a gabled ashlar bellcote at the apex with a weathervane, a door to the right, and a bipartite window to the left. The right gable has a tall tripartite window, while the rear elevation facing the playground is also M-gabled, with each gable containing tall tripartite windows. The gable to the right of the return elevation is blank, and the left is similarly unadorned.

The windows throughout are timber sash and case, either 8 or 12 panes. The roof is covered with purple slates, and there are gablehead stacks with coping and clay cans, as well as coped skews.

The interior was not seen as of 1997. The garden and boundary walls consist of rubble with render-pointing and semicircular coping, complemented by square gatepiers for both pedestrian and vehicular access.
