Description
14 and 16 High Street in North Berwick is an early to mid-19th century, two-storey house that later became a shop. The building is constructed of rubble, with coursed, stugged, and painted stone on the south side, featuring a raised base and cill courses on the first floor.
The south front was originally designed to be symmetrical with three bays, but the ground floor openings were altered in the later 19th century. It has a central doorway, which is flanked on the left by an enlarged window with plate glass glazing and on the right by a broader doorway and window. The doors are deep panelled and fanlit, and there are three regular 12-pane sash windows on the first floor.
At the rear, there is a projecting central stair block. The roof is pantiled with plain skews and has mutual gable stone stacks.
