Description
The War Memorial on Quality Street in North Berwick was designed by James S. Richardson in 1921, with carving by Carrick. This memorial takes the form of a mercat cross, featuring a stone octagonal plinth that supports a moulded base of an octagonal pedestal. The pedestal has angle buttresses, and each face displays bronze plaques listing the names of the fallen. Acanthus scrolls, which end in bronze shields, cap the buttressed angles and extend into the base of the shaft. The octagonal shaft has a moulded base and capital with convex faces, adorned with a thistle frieze and four shields at the capital. At the top, a unicorn holding a saltire shield serves as the finial.
