Description
The War Memorial on Charleston Road in Glamis, built around 1920, features a Celtic Cross design. It consists of three stages, constructed from ashlar stone, with an octagonal plinth and shaft. The base has a battered course and a deep plinth that supports a bronze memorial plaque, which is dated 1914-1919 and lists the names of the fallen on the northwest face. The frieze is inscribed with the words "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND TO THE UNDYING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF GLAMIS PARISH WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR." The shaft tapers down to a Celtic Cross finial. The plinth is a small circular base made of flat-coped, rock-faced ashlar, with three steps leading up to the northwest side.
