Description

Sir Robert Lorimer, executed by William Davidson, 1920. 2-stage square columnar War Memorial with crenellated later? enclosure. Ashlar sandstone.

1st stage on plain plinth, N face with St. George and the dragon above inscription tablet worded:

"To the Glory of God and in memory of the men from Markinch and District who laid down their lives in the Great War 1914-1918".

S face with St. Drostan above inscription tablet worded:

"Remember also those who laid down their lives in the Second World War 1939-1945".

surmounting bronze name plaque.

2nd stage, raked base, plain shaft with chamfered edges and carved shield to each face at apex; S depicting old parish church, W with knight on horseback, E with Saltire and N with thistle and crown. Surmounted by cross finial on squat square shaft.

ENCLOSURE: lectern-coped, crenellated, polygonal ashlar enclosure, base course, 4 openings.
