Description
The War Memorial at Caddonfoot Parish Church was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer around 1920, with later additions. It is made of sandstone ashlar and commemorates those who served in World War I. The memorial features a two-stage, octagonal base with bull-nosed surrounds on the upper stage. Above this is a square plinth with names inscribed on each face. The memorial is topped with a square-plan, tapering shaft that has chamfered angles and a corniced capital. At the very top, there is a stylised finial that includes fleur-de-lys motifs surrounding a cross within a circle, symbolising eternal life. A later addition commemorates World War II, consisting of a vertically-set rectangular panel inscribed with '1939.1945' at the centre, flanked by horizontally-set rectangular panels with names inscribed on either side.
