Description
The War Memorial at Durga Ness in Foula was built around 1925 to commemorate those who served in the Great War. It features a symmetrical battered tower with a square base. The base is made of harl-pointed rubble with a slabbed top. Above this, the second stage is constructed from stugged squared and snecked sandstone, also battered, and includes an ashlar cross on the east side. On the west side, there is a polished granite memorial slab that is inscribed. The memorial is topped with an open-work parapet that sits over a string course, featuring merlon-like dies that are connected by a continuous coping.
