Description
Haa Of Foula is a late 18th century laird's house, with an addition made around 1910. It is a single storey and attic structure with a rectangular plan, featuring a prominent single storey square-plan castellated Tudor porch that has an incomplete double door, projecting from the front. At the rear, there is a single storey lean-to addition. The early house and rear addition have harled walls, while the porch is made of stugged squared and snecked sandstone with stugged sandstone ashlar dressings and details.
On the east (principal) elevation, the ground floor in the center bay is obscured by the porch. There are windows in the flanking bays, with the right window being narrow. The center bay has a harled and gabled dormer head breaking the eaves, while the left bay is blank on the first floor and the right bay has a window below the eaves. The porch has asymmetrical elevations with moulded and splayed reveals around the openings. The east elevation features narrow and square windows on either side of the center. The south elevation has a pointed-arched entrance door with narrow windows on either side, while the north elevation mirrors this arrangement with a smaller door. A cornice at the eaves of the east elevation connects to a corbel of a nascent circular bartizan at the southeast corner.
The south gable is asymmetrical with two bays, featuring a single window in the left bay at ground level and narrow windows in each bay at the attic. The west (rear) elevation has a lean-to addition projecting at ground level and a harled stone dormer head in the center bay. The north gable is blank. The building has modern glazing throughout, felted roofs, harled skew-copes, and gablehead stacks with stone copes and circular cans.
