Description
Melness House is a late 18th century, south-facing, two-storey, three-bay house featuring a central door that is concealed by a lean-to porch. An addition, which is also two-storey and has an attic, was added in the early to mid-19th century, creating an L-shaped plan. The exterior is finished in whitewashed or harled rubble. The main entrance is located in the east-facing section of the later addition, which has a projecting gabled central bay, a side entrance, a first-floor window above, and an apex stack, along with two-piended dormers. To the north of the main house, there is a single-storey, three-bay service dwelling connected by a short passage. This service dwelling features small wallhead attic windows and a corrugated asbestos roof. The windows throughout include 12-pane and 2-pane glazing, and the property has a large rear wallhead stack, end stacks, and slate roofs.
