Description
The War Memorial in Easter Pencaitland was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer around 1920. It commemorates those who fell in the First World War and features a tapering shaft set on a square pedestal, accompanied by two octagonal flights of steps. The memorial appears to be made of reconstituted stone. The base has four recessed rectangular panels with rounded edges, which display a dedication and the names of the fallen. The shaft has chamfered edges and four national shields located below the neck. At the top, there is a cross finial within a circle, resting on a moulded base that is decorated with paterae. Additionally, a plaque commemorating the Second World War has been added at the base of the shaft.
