Description
South Lodge at Winton Castle is a single-storey gate lodge built in the later 19th century. It is constructed from squared and snecked cream sandstone, featuring chamfered reveals for the ashlar dressings and base course.
The east elevation has three bays, with distinctive lintels above the openings. The left outer bay is advanced and features a gabled design with a canted window topped by a crenellated parapet, and a blank panel above in the gable. To the outer right, there is a door with a strip fanlight, leading to a gabled timber porch that has barge-boarding and chamfered arrises on the timber columns. The central bay contains a bipartite window. There is also a blank panel in the gablehead to the north, along with a modern extension at the rear.
The sash and case windows have a horizontal-pane glazing pattern, and the roof is covered with purple slates. A clustered ridge stack with coping is present, along with decorative terracotta ridge tiles.
