Gates And Railings, War Memorial With Boundary Wall, Comrie Road, Crieff

The Gates and Railings, War Memorial with Boundary Wall on Comrie Road in Crieff is a war memorial designed by architect Peter MacGregor Chalmers and built by Peter Crerar in 1921. This three-stage, cross finialled, octagonal memorial commemorates those who fell in World War I and includes an inscription for World War II. It is made of Cullaloe stone and stands 24 feet 6 inches high.

The memorial features a battered octagonal base, with each face displaying a cast bronze plate that lists the names of the fallen. Above this, there is a relief carved band with the inscription "IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WARS 1914-18 1939-45." The second stage of the memorial steps inwards and reduces to a slender, battered octagonal shaft that is banded with regimental emblems, symbols of the Colonies, and Nursing Services. This shaft culminates in a heavily carved capital that bears the Scottish Arms, St Andrews Cross, the Arms of Perth County, and the Burgh of Crieff, interspersed with Scottish thistles. The entire structure is topped with a cross.

Surrounding the memorial are low, flat-coped squared rubble boundary walls that include inset ironwork railings and a gate.
