Description
The War Memorial in Bardon Mill was erected in 1920 to honor the local individuals who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars. It is constructed from granite and sandstone and features a Celtic cross. The cross has a rolled rope motif edging, with a crosshead adorned with Celtic interlace and carved stone bosses. The shaft of the cross displays three rectangular panels that include Celtic knot and animal interlace carvings, as well as an equal-armed cross.
The memorial stands on a stepped rectangular plinth divided into three parts. The front inscription reads: "IN MEMORY OF/ THOSE FROM THIS DISTRICT/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR/ RIGHT AND FREEDOM/ HOME AND COUNTRY/ IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918" followed by the names of the fallen. The sides of the memorial also commemorate "THOSE/ WHO FELL IN THE/ SECOND GREAT WAR/ 1939-1945" along with additional names.
The memorial is set on a rectangular two-stepped stone base and was unveiled in 1921. It is listed as Grade II.
