Description
The Vicarage is a vicarage built in 1845, as indicated by the date on the lintel of the basement door. It features ashlar stonework set on a rusticated basement plinth. The building has a low-pitched hipped slate roof with two corniced ashlar ridge stacks. The main garden front is two storeys high with three wide bays, the central bay forming a segmental bow. Curved stone steps lead to a half-glazed door flanked by sidelights and topped with an oblong fanlight, all slightly curved in plan. The doorcase is designed with plain pilasters and an entablature. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are set in plain reveals with slightly projecting stone sills; notably, the centre window on the first floor is also curved in plan. There is a projecting left rear wing, and an extruded staircase turret features a round-arched window with interlaced glazing bars. To the right of the main block is a basement door that bears the inscription: 'This House was built by the Revd E Benson who dying before it was finished devised it to the chapel 1845'.
