War Memorial, Wellmeadow, Blairgowrie

The War Memorial in Wellmeadow, Blairgowrie, was designed by Reginald Fairlie in 1920, with sculpture by A Carrick. It is a three-stage, octagonal memorial dedicated to World War I, featuring a two-stage addition for World War II, constructed from ashlar stone.

The World War I memorial is accessed by seven octagonal steps leading to a square base and a tall plinth that has inset bronze panels. The northeast panel displays the 'BLAIRGOWRIE AND RATTRAY ROLL OF HONOUR', with names continuing on the northwest and southwest panels. Above this, a stepped second stage features a relief carving of '1914 - 1919', transitioning to a carved cross with a wreath on the southeast side. The reduced third stage has a tapering octagonal shaft and a cushion capital, which is intricately carved with a thistle and regimental emblems, topped by a pelican with upraised wings.

The World War II memorial is a low square plinth that projects from the base of the World War I memorial at the southeast steps. It has bronze panels displaying the roll of honour on each face, topped by a continuous ribbon frieze that reads 'ALSO IN THE' 'SECOND WORLD WAR' '1939 - 1945', and features a full-size bronze figure of a mourning soldier. There is an additional inscription at the base that states 'KOREAN WAR 1950-53'.
