Buckhaven And Methil War Memorial, Wellesley Road, Methil

The Buckhaven and Methil War Memorial, located on Wellesley Road in Methil, was designed by G C Campbell around 1920, with sculptural work by T Good from Edinburgh and built by Ruvie & Son from Leven. This memorial commemorates those who served in World War I, featuring a plinth and a statue of a soldier, with an additional role-of-honour for World War II. The structure is made of polished ashlar stone, with voussoirs, and is raised on two polygonal steps made of Arbroath stone, enclosed by setback railings that surround the buttressed plinth. The plinth displays bronze plaques set into small projecting pedestals within segmental-headed niches. A deeply moulded cornice leads to a stepped second stage, topped by a figure of a uniformed Royal Highlander.

On the north elevation, there is a moulded plaque inscribed with 'GREAT WAR/1914-1918/IN HONOURED MEMORY OF OUR HEROIC DEAD', which is topped by a carved Burgh Emblem that reads 'THE BURGH OF BUCKHAVEN, METHIL AND INNERLEVEN/CARBON CARABESQUE'. Flanking this are reveals with plaques listing the names of those who died in World War II. The south, east, and west elevations all feature similar roll-of-honour plaques for both World War I and World War II.
