1 Cowley Street, Denbeath

7 Cowley Street in Denbeath is a group of later 19th-century miners' cottages, which were re-worked by Alexander Tod in the early 20th century. The building consists of two single-storey, curved terraces featuring three bays each, with a bowed end gable on the eastern side (No 1) and an arched link to the L-plan manager's house (No 51) on the western side. The exterior is harled with stone margins and has crowstepped gables. The windows are set high under the eaves, which makes the doors appear smaller.

On the southeast elevation, Nos 1-23 are located to the right of a central linking brick wall, with each cottage having a door in the center and generous windows in the flanking bays, although the openings for No 11 have been blocked. The outer left bays (Nos 25-49) mirror this layout, but No 49 features a modern timber door and enlarged window openings. To the left, there is a round-headed niche in the link wall adjoining No 51, which has a window in an advanced crowstepped gable to the right of center. This section also includes a small porch with a cornice over the door, featuring a three-part fanlight in the re-entrant angle to the left, and an additional window to the outer left.

The windows throughout the cottages typically have a 12-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case, except for No 51, which has a 15-pane glazing pattern in metal casement windows. The roofs are covered with pantiles, with a slate easing course at the eaves and slates on the rounded southern angle. The chimneys are coped and harled, with the southern chimney being shouldered and featuring a full complement of clay cans.
